This new chat system sounds much better. (And beginner's should have Allied Chat disabled.)

Chat rework

I recently had an idea for reworking player chat. I'd like to know player's opinion.

It would work in the following way:
  • There will no longer be division to Shared Chat and Teams Chat.
  • Players will be able to use Allied Chat. When they do, only nearby players will see the message in chat. (There will be no more chat shared by teams.)
  • Players will be able to use Global Chat. It will work the same way as always.
  • Any message (both Allied and Global) that player types will appear above him. All nearby players can see it.
Player's text color will match talking player's color.
  • Optionally: for beginner player convenience, they will not be able to use Allied Chat. Their messages will always be global.

in KR Forum opinion

- We don't roam together in game, It is not necessary. Maybe It's helpful when we escort, demand ammunition and end-game siege.
- Just please remove allied chat option. I'm annoyed to allied chat.
- I agree, chat balloon is good and if it is visible to nearby player only, chat window will be clean. and It makes it clear who you are talking to.
- Every time you speak, you have to press SHIFT ENTER to change it to All. It is the reason why allied chat is uncomfortable. Rather, I want you to resolve this point.

I don't speak english well, Tell me if you have any awkward parts.

I understand these opinions. Unfortunately, I am very limited with what I can do.

I cannot change Shift+Enter combination for switching to All chat, nor can I make All chat default while Allied Chat is enabled for a player.
I can only enable/disable Allied Chat between players. When a player has no Allied Chat with any other player, he can only speak on All chat.

Perhaps a good solution would be a button allowing player to enable/disable Allied Chat?
Personally, I would preffer if allied chat was always enabled for players. I understand that it is inconvenient but using it saves a lot of chaos in chat.

Could you organise a poll to gather votes of Korean players?

Sounds like a really good idea. I too don't like the allied chat, but mainly because it's buggy and whenever a player lags out you playing solo will have to switch to the shared chat every time.
I think there should just be few changes to the windows:
1. Make them visible in fog of war, so you can talk even when your ally has highground.
2. Add white outlines to the text, so it's easier to distinguish it over any background. Another way is to make the window white-ish.
3. Add some kind of sound for ally messages/shared messages. something like radio interference.
4. Would be good if there would be some warning (probably with unique sound too) if all other players are too far to see the ally message so you know for sure they didn't.

For anyone being bothered by shift entering with their right hand(pinky) being too hard, just set open all chat/allied chat/chat to Tab or shift+Tab/whatever and fix the resulting fucked up hotykeys(tab through unit selection which isnt that useful in pando anyways) to your additional mousebuttons(if you dont have a special moususe different hotykey saves for different game modes). this way your left hand can quickly open chat while your mousehand moves over to type instead of mouse hand stopping to enter. Or howw about pressing shift with your left and hand and enter with your right hand? reduced chat chaos outweights the "uh, im too lazy to do simple adaptations" attitude.

Anyways, Teamspeak/discord is a better solution to the current allied chat anyways *high fives Skelet*. If more players would use these. your intended chat change would have convenient upsides but no downside.

I can just say Allied chat is crap. In any way. People do forget with activated allied chat to write ALL and so no Information about the current game state is shared so nobody know anything.

I just assume that you all just forgot it (most of you) but the Solution is just one download and some clicks away....... i hate to repeat myself but Teamspeak would solve this Allied chat thing completly. But the Playerbase is too stubborn to accept it.

new opinion
- We almost don't use Allied chat. it used like notepad. I think It's better to integrate into All chat.
- Keep current, but I want you to put chat balloon.

Dark, I think you should do your yes/no button thing about allied chat. Have it enabled by default but let someone switch it back on and off if he desires.
-> If possible, this should have no effect to the new chat bubble. (Even when allied chat is disabled, a player can still see the chat bubble appear above himself or someone else when he typed something. Literally just the normal starcraft-chat is being kept clean(-er) with this idea.)
I remember back in 2015 when the Agent was op... Rest in supplies, my friend.

I recently realised that enabling/disabling allied chat per player won't work.
A player with disabled allied chat will not be able to see messages of nearby players who use it.
Best I could do is give option to enable/disable allied chat for all players from lobby.
Personally, I don't like the idea of disabling allied chat. I've seen it many times when All chat gets spammed so much it's practicly useless.

So how about this:
- I'll add chat balloons for all messages,
- I'll temporarily implement the new distance-based allied chat as described to see how it works for you.

I could also add this option to disable allied chat for all players from lobby, but I'd preffer not to. I think it would work out best if players learned to use Allied and All chat properly.
However, if you guys are sure you'd like that option, I can add it. I can also allow it or hide it for different servers.

Btw I am also supporting the idea of using voice chats. I realise though that it's not convenient for everyone.
Still, if we could get voice chat going in Pando, that would be great.

I think you can easily make it allied for everyone for now. It will be like a test while people learn how to use it and how it can be polished, after some time if not everyone likes it still, there could be a vote for global chat only as well.
